
Ruby James
Project Manager
Ruby joined the NCCMH in June 2024, and works across a range of research and quality improvement projects. She has supported with the development of systematic reviews, care pathways, and competence frameworks in areas including mental health and dementia care. Ruby works closely with researchers, commissioners, people with lived experience and other key stakeholders to support evidence-based service improvement and policy development.
Ruby studied Psychology at the University of Liverpool, where she developed a strong interest in the psychology of aging. Her final-year dissertation focused on the resilience of parental dementia carers, involving qualitative interviews with individuals caring for, or who had previously cared for, a parent with dementia. The study explored what supported or challenged their resilience in the caregiving journey.
Before joining the NCCMH, Ruby worked in pensions administration and later moved into account management at a pharmaceutical communications and marketing agency. In that role, she managed the delivery of a wide range of materials and activities, including abstracts, manuscripts, posters, podcasts and online advisory boards.
