Momentum Matters: Ensuring Long-Term QI Project Success

The annual RCPsych Quality Improvement (QI) conference will be held online this year on Wednesday 12 November 2025. This will be an online, half-day event (approx. 1-5pm) showcasing the best of quality improvement in mental health.

A large part of the afternoon will be focused on learning from the fantastic improvement work that is already taking place across the country. This year our emphasis is on successfully implementing and sustaining QI project outcomes and successes beyond the scope of a project or team, and how this can encourage and demonstrate the value of services investing in QI and coproduction.

We are now inviting individuals and teams to submit proposals for presentation at the conference. Proposals for presentations are invited on a variety of related areas.

We are now inviting individuals and teams to submit proposals for presentation at the conference. We particularly welcome proposals focused on embedding QI in mental health care with feedback from staff, patients, and carers inside and outside of the QI project team.

Sustaining QI project momentum and ensuring long-term success should be essential components of proposals submitted:

  • Examples of how successful QI projects have had a positive impact on the experience and outcomes for people using mental health services (both during and after the project and for people inside and outside of the QI project team)
  • Examples of how QI is being used to improve mental health care beyond the scope of individual projects/teams
  • Examples of how to embed QI to sustain improvements to culture and systems in mental health services for the long-term
  • Examples of how to build QI capacity/capability
  • Examples of QI work involving students, trainees, Speciality Doctors, and Associate Specialists

Abstracts to include:

  • Title (15 words maximum)
  • Background (what was the issue chosen, and why is it important)
  • Application of quality improvement methodology (aim statement, theory of change, ideas tested, data over time)
  • Evidence of coproduction (patient/carer involvement) in the project
  • Challenges and Successes: Reflection on learning and next steps

Please use the attached QI Conference 2025 - Abstract Submission Form to help submit your proposal. By submitting a proposal, you agree to this (and any related presentation materials) being recorded and shared with attendees and/or in a library of QI resources on the RCPsych website after the event.
