Kate's mother, Pamela was refused a new kidney cancer drug in 2005 due to cost and Kate took on the welsh government and within 6 months Pamela was the 1st patient in Wales to receive the new drug. Kate continued campaigning for all kidney cancer patients and the Welsh Health Secretary agreed to fund the drug to all eligible kidney cancer patients. Kate went on to campaign for english and scottish patients until all kidney cancer patients got the treatment they needed. The PNF evolved to work with all rare cancers needing newer, more expensive drugs. In 12 years Kate supported over 4000 cancer patients and campaigned successfully for funding for 20 new cancer drugs. In 2019 Kate embarked on a legal career and returned as a mature student to University. Kate passed all her legal qualification with distinction and went on to receive a 1st class Master of Laws. Wim died the day after her final exam. Kate realised her brother had illuminated the pathway back to her true calling, as a campaigner.
