Nuala Ernest
Senior Editor
Nuala joined the College in November 2009, working on NICE mental health clinical guidelines until 2016, and becoming Senior Editor in 2022. She works closely with the NCCMH project teams and external contributors, from scoping to publication of mental health guidance, care pathways, reports, competence frameworks and more.
Nuala updates the NCCMH web pages, and manages the house editorial style guide and associated processes. Nuala was chair of the RCPsych Staff Representative Committee and co-chair of the staff Wellbeing at Work Forum (2017–19). She is trained in various aspects of editing and production, and is a member of the CIEP.
After a BA in American Studies, Nuala worked for Routledge and Harcourt Brace, British Institute of Radiology journals, and copy edited for Pluto Press. Nuala was Features Editor on the award-winning Raw Vision magazine of ‘Outsider’, self-taught and folk art, and art brut. She remains a contributing editor.
Nuala has also worked at the Tavistock Clinic for 2 years, giving administrative support to a multidisciplinary team of over 20 clinicians. Witnessing the transformative work that they did sparked a deeper interest in mental health care, as well as a passion for improving it.
