Dear Members,
I am honoured to assume the role of Chair of the Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group (TSIG). Thank you for trusting me with this responsibility.
I am a member of the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry, and it has been a privilege to serve as an Executive Member of TSIG. This group has long been a source of inspiration and connection for me, and I am enthusiastic to lead its next chapter.
Culture lies at the heart of everything we do in psychiatry — it influences how we understand, connect with, and care for our patients. As Chair, I am committed to promoting cultural competence, equity, and inclusion in our clinical practice. My aims include enhancing education, increasing member engagement, and fostering international collaboration to achieve improved mental health outcomes for diverse communities.
Over the next four years, I look forward to working closely with you to expand our community and make meaningful progress. Your insights and experiences are vital in shaping our direction, and I warmly invite you to share your ideas, priorities, and hopes for TSIG.
For your suggestions or feedback, you can reach me at: Sigs@rcpsych.ac.uk
With sincere gratitude and warmest wishes,
Dr Saima Niaz
Chair, Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group
