
Dr Aalap Asurlekar
West Scotland Wellbeing Champion
Dr Aalap Asurlekar is a Core Psychiatry Trainee in the West of Scotland and the West of Scotland Wellbeing Champion. Having graduated from the University of Dundee, Aalap has developed a strong interest in promoting wellbeing across the medical workforce, with a particular focus on early-career doctors.
They previously chaired the Foundation Forum for the West of Scotland and currently sit on its advisory panel. During their time as Chair, Aalap led several successful advocacy and peer support initiatives, including the Doctors’ Mess and Wellbeing Project, which improved rest facilities, access to food, and community-building opportunities for junior doctors across multiple sites.
Aalap also serves as the Co-Director of Ambassadorship at In2MedSchool, a UK-wide widening participation charity. In this role, they oversee national projects including virtual work experience programmes that promote inclusivity and accessibility for aspiring medical students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Aalap is passionate about wellbeing throughout medical training and is a strong advocate for protected time, psychological safety, and supportive structures that allow doctors to thrive. Their interests include medical leadership, workforce wellbeing, and forensic psychiatry. As Wellbeing Champion, Aalap is keen to foster collaborative networks that prioritise mental health, joy at work, and sustainable, compassionate working environments for psychiatrists across the region.
