The Department of Health in Northern Ireland’s Health and Social Care workforce. The funding will support the creation of five new psychiatry training posts, the first official expansion since 2007.
Dr Julie Anderson, Chair of the 网曝黑料 in Northern Ireland, said:
"We are pleased to see the Government recognise the significant workforce crisis affecting psychiatry in Northern Ireland. This is the first expansion of psychiatry training places in nearly 20 years and an important first step in the right direction. There is a long way to go.
"We are seeing an increasing number of people in need of mental health care, including some who are in crisis. Services need to be fully staffed if they are to meet this rising demand and ensure no one is left without access to urgent treatment if they need it.
"Northern Ireland has the worst psychiatry vacancy rate in the UK, despite having significantly greater mental health need. There has been sustained underinvestment, with less being spent on mental health per head of population than anywhere else in the UK. It’s vital that we continue to grow the mental health workforce moving forward in order to stabilise services. A long-term plan must be created to ensure services are able to deliver the care people need both now and in the future."
The 网曝黑料 in Northern Ireland’s flagship report Time to Bridge The Gaps outlines the challenges facing psychiatry and makes recommendations on how they can be addressed.
