Dr Asha Praseedom appointed as new RCPsych Books Editor

The College is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Asha Praseedom as its new Books Editor.

As Books Editor, Dr Praseedom will have overall responsibility for the development of the College’s successful books programme, which is published . 

The books are aimed primarily at psychiatrists, but many also address a wider range of professionals involved in mental health, and a growing number of titles aimed at the general public.

Dr Praseedom will chair the College’s Books Committee, which shapes the strategic direction of the books programme, as well as commissioning titles, reviewing proposals and working with authors to develop their manuscripts.

Dr Praseedom did her training in psychiatry in Edinburgh and Cambridge and has been a Consultant psychiatrist at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust since 2006, where she is now clinical director for patient flow. 

Her clinical specialism is rehabilitation psychiatry. As well as being an existing member of the Books Committee, her College roles have included serving as Vice-Chair of the College’s Rehabilitation Faculty. 

She has edited high-profile book titles herself as well as publishing a number of journal articles and is a trustee of a number of charities tackling homelessness.

Dr Praseedom will succeed current Books Editor Dr Anne Doherty, who has served in the role for 10 years.

Dr Asha Praseedom said: 

"I am honoured to step in as the new College Books Editor. Books have always been a passion of mine. I hope to bring this passion into my new role, and to build on the amazing work by Dr Doherty and the Books Committee.

Dr Praseedom will be taking up the role of Books Editor from July this year.
