Scotland is facing a mental health emergency say leading psychiatrists

Scotland is facing a mental health emergency – the 网曝黑料 in Scotland said today. 

The warning comes as the College launched its own manifesto ahead of the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary elections next year. 

Focusing on the three A’s - Awareness, Action and Accountability the document is calling on all political parties to  “tackle Scotland’s mental health emergency”. 

Measures in the manifesto include: 

  • Delivery of a fully funded national strategy to cut the mortality gap in half by 2050 for people with severe mental illness and learning disabilities.
  • A legal mechanism to deliver the promise of at least 10% of the NHS budget to adult mental health and 1% to CAMHS to improve access and better services for our patients. 
  • A national, funded plan for those with neurodivergent conditions such as autism and ADHD so people can access the right help without having to be on a long waiting list. 
  • A focus on public mental health to empower people and limit inequalities.

Dr Jane Morris, chair of RCPsych in Scotland, said:

"Our warning is not new. We’ve known for some time that Scotland is facing a mental health emergency and it’s clear that leadership and urgent action is needed. 

"With our manifesto, we want to give a voice to some of the most vulnerable members of society and help transform the crisis we now find ourselves in. 

"Ahead of the next election we’re calling on all political parties to take bold action, honest accountability and make real investment – not just more promises. 

"It’s a passionate plea to politicians and to all who vote for them, at a time of both crisis and opportunity."
